Recently I joined with members of Glen Cairn United Church in Kanata for a consultation on how best to support the community using funds managed by their Outreach Committee. I look forward to the roll-out of their upcoming project, and enjoyed working with a group with such a long history of community involvement in Kanata.
I had the pleasure of attending Career Day at Earl of March Secondary School in Kanata. I would like to thank Brayden Riel and Steven Savary for their invitation, and the opportunity to talk with students about my role as an Ottawa City Councillor.
One of my highlights of my week was speaking to physicians and staff at CHEO as part of the roll-out for their refreshed mission, vision, and strategic direction for the upcoming three years. It is truly exciting to have such a world class institution in our community, and I was honoured to be a part of this town hall with so many who make a difference in our community.
I had the honour of taking to dinner the winner of the United Way auction. I have always been a strong supporter of the United Way, and the excellent work they do in our community. As of January 21, over $26.9 million has been raised for the United Way Ottawa towards their goal.
Jan. 26 brought one of the signature events of the year with a wonderful skating show by Elizabeth Manley and her friends at Scotiabank Place. A portion of the proceeds will go to D.I.F.D and the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa. Thank you to Elizabeth and everyone involved for helping raise funds for such an important cause. I also want to think the skaters from the Glen Cairn Skate Club who skated with my son Jamie, and performed as part of the evening’s festivities.
Feb. 9 – Hockey Day in Kanata: Come out to the Clarence Maheral Park Rink at 170 Castlefrank Drive and enjoy some exciting minor hockey action as part of Hockey Day in Canada celebrations. It is my privilege to be joined by the Minister of State (Sport) the Honourable Bal Gosal for the puck drop at 10:00am.
March 6 – Women’s Day Celebration: I will be hosting my annual Women’s Day Celebration at the Kanata Recreation Centre in Salon A. Light refreshments will be served and my musical guest will be Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee Gail Gavan and her band. The event will be held from 6:30-9:00pm with free admission and attendance open to everyone.
We are preparing a quarterly e-newsletter to keep residents informed on activities in the ward and at city hall. To be added to the recipient list, please email my office or visit my website.
