Space to expand

On Oct. 24, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society signed the lease to officially take possession of the former Canada and the World Pavilion building on Sussex Avenue. Chief executive officer of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Canadian Geographic Enterprises John Geiger and National Capital Commission chief executive officer Mark Kristmanson sign the lease.

New charges

Police laid additional sexual assault charges against retired teacher Donald Greenham on Oct. 18., stemming from incidents alleged to have taken place between 1971 and 1981. Back on Aug. 22, Greenham was originally charged with 14 counts of sexual assault and indecency.


Police were out front of 1098 Clyde Ave. on Oct. 22, hours after a 26-year-old man sustained stab wounds. He later died in hospital.

Autonomous vehicles

City council approved a motion to research and submit a plan to the province to allow autonomous vehicle testing on public roads, beginning in the Kanata North Business Park.

Exploring Mars

MP for Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister for Youth Peter Schiefke checks out the Canada Aviation and Space Museum newest mobile application on Oct. 18. Space Frontiers: Dawn of Mars lets players be a commanding officer of M.E.T. 003, the third Mars Expeditionary Team, players are on a one-way mission to land and establish the first permanent settlement on Mars.

Public engagement

Several dozen Nepean residents gathered at the Nepean Sportsplex on Oct. 18 for the last of the city’s six pre-budget town hall meetings. What they lacked in numbers, they made up for in concerns.

Special patient

This juvenile bald eagle is being cared for by staff at Ottawa's Wild Bird Care Centre after he was brought to the centre on Oct. 4 thin and dehydrated, with two broken wings, as a result of being shot.
