Duck club

A male wood duck swims on the Beaver Pond north of Kanata Lakes in 2015. The species is one of several the Ottawa Duck Club has been working to support since 1966. The club is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.

7 arrested

Police believed a shooting was being planned by people in a house in Glen Cairn on Feb. 2, and raided the home, resulting in seven arrests and more than 30 firearm charges.

Dance fundraiser

Dancers from across Ottawa will come together on Feb. 6 to perform in a non-competitive fundraiser that aims to change the atmosphere around dance competitions and support youth mental health at the same time.

Human apple slice

University of Ottawa associate professor Andrew Pelling, founder of the Pelling Laboratory for Physical Manipulation, holds up a $1,000 piece of biomaterial in his right hand, and an apple slice containing human cells in the other. He and his researchers are working to prove that pieces of decellularized apple can be used just as well as biomaterial to help human bodies repair themselves, and for much less money.
