City strikes deal with deal with 6,300 CUPE employees

The city announced Sept. 28 that it had ratified a collective agreement with CUPE local 503. The union is the city’s largest, and represents 6,300 employees – referred to as inside/outside workers – in various departments.

The Queensway Carleton Hospital’s new Acute Care for the Elderly Unit is scheduled to open in October and receive its first patients in November, despite a funding shortfall of $400,000. However, the unit’s supporters aren’t ready to give up on meeting its fundraising goals, and Bay Coun. Mark Taylor is set to host the second annual Their Time for Care cocktail reception for the unit on Oct. 13 at Biagio’s Italian Kitchen, 1394 Richmond Rd.
