Government funding in Kanata

City to waive $5 admin for taxi licence renewal as a gesture of goodwill

Council voted to waive $5 in taxi licence renewal fees thanks in part to an administrative error. The fee was marked to go up to $55 during the budget process, but the city mailed out renewal notice with the incorrect amount to 2,583 licensed cabbies.

Canoe the Carp River

The Canoe the Carp River event scheduled for May 1 has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to low water levels.

She says more hospice beds are needed in the city so everyone has access to the wonderful care her husband received. Hospice Care Ottawa is in need of $600,000 by the end of May to begin building its residential wing in Kanata.

City council may be asking the province to make changes to the Highway Traffic Act to allow civilians to direct traffic during special events or construction. Mayor Jim Watson said monitoring a barricade is a waste of police officers' skills.
